Templer Park Country Club
Set amidst the evergreen Templer Park Forest Reserve and under the backdrop of the majestic Bukit Takun limestone hill, Templer Park Country Club ranks as one of the most scenic and challenging golf experiences in Malaysia.
Crafted by acclaimed golf course architect Kentaro Sato with inputs from veteran Japanese professional and World Golf Hall of Famer Masashi “Jumbo” Ozaki, the club was officially opened on 27th April 1991 – enchanting locals and expatriates alike with its tranquil natural setting and championship quality golf layout.
Having been one of the earliest golf courses to open in that decade, Templer Park Country Club went on to score many firsts – it was the first Japanese-owned and managed golf club; the first to offer buggies and lady caddies in the country and holds the distinction of debuting the concept of night golfing with nine holes lighted after dark.
The club’s due recognition came when it received the nod to host the prestigious Malaysian Open not once – but three times in 1995, 1996 and 2000 – the latter when the Open was jointly sanctioned by the European and Asian PGA Tours.
Recognising the need to stay ahead of its competitors, the club underwent a massive upgrading exercise in 2008 – with significant improvements being made to the fairways and bunkers as well as the introduction of new Satiri greens on all 18 holes.
The distinctly Japanese-styled clubhouse itself received a make-over in 2013 with new contemporary changing rooms as well as the addition of meeting and seminar rooms to its existing list of well-maintained facilities.
This dedication to improvement was recently recognised when Templer Park Country Club was picked the “Best Improved Golf Course for 2013″ by the readers of ParGolf – one of Malaysia’s leading golf magazines.
As a responsible player in the local golf industry, Templer Park Country Club is a good standing member of the Malaysian Golf Tourism Association (MGTA) as well as a founding partner of The ClubHouse Junior Golf Rankings presented by Titleist.
The club also features regularly as a host venue on the fast-growing domestic Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Toursince 2012.
